Office of Academic Program Development’s New Degree Programs
In Fall 2019, UIC implemented 14 new degree programs. Nine of the 14 were the result of the acquisition of the UIC School of Law – Chicago’s first and only public law school. The College of Engineering has launched the MS in Construction Engineering and Management - the only one of its kind at a public university in the greater Chicago area.
Also in graduate education, two new master’s degrees focus on issues unique to urban centers. The first of its kind in the state, the MEd in Urban Higher Education (College of Education) will answer the increasing need for qualified leaders to run urban, higher education institutions. Master of City Design students (College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs) learn how to plan for the physical design of cities using spatial thinking that combines design knowledge, analyses of places, and meaningful engagement with diverse communities.
In undergraduate education, the College of Business Administration established the BS in Human Resources Management and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences consolidated majors in Polish and Russian into the BS in Liberal Arts and Sciences, Major in Polish, Russian, and Central and Eastern European Studies. In addition, new minors in Central and Eastern European Studies (LAS), Life Science Visualization (College of Applied Health Sciences), and Spanish for the Professions (LAS) were created.
Two additional master’s degrees in CUPPA were approved for future terms – the Master of Public Policy (effective Spring 2020) and MS in Civic Analytics (effective Fall 2020).
